Our History
THE FOUNDINGIn early 2023, vacation-rental owners and short-term-rental (STR) operators in the Pocono Mountains region began meeting informally. According to the public record, those informal gatherings morphed into an association by April 2023 when the group incorporated with bylaws, volunteers and charter members. Pocono Mountains The impetus for forming Poconos VRO was two-fold: (1) to give STR owners and managers a united voice in local policy and community affairs; and (2) to elevate responsible hosting practices, advocacy, education and networking in a region experiencing rapid tourism growth and increased regulatory focus. |

ALLIANCE WITH THE POCONOS MOUNTAIN VISITORS BUREAUFrom the outset, Poconos VRO founders recognized that success for STR owners is interlinked with the broader tourism economy. Thus, the association formed a foundational alliance with the Pocono Mountains Visitor Bureau (PMVB). The Visitor Bureau provides tourism data, research, coordination and supports hospitality-industry collaboration. Having this formal or informal partnership enabled Poconos VRO to position STRs as part of the region’s economic ecosystem, not adversaries to it. Pocono Mountains |
THE FIRST STR CONFERENCE & MILESTONESIn 2023, Poconos VRO hosted its inaugural STR conference—it’s listed that the 2024 booklet refers to the “Inaugural Poconos VRO STR Conference” with thanks given to the Visitor Bureau as a partner.
